The First Amendment Research Paper
Introduction
The US Constitution contains the Bill of Rights that explains the purposes of the First Amendment, an article that gives the US citizens the freedom of expression, speech, press, and religion. Another right and freedom that the amendment protects is peaceful demonstrations, petitioning the Federal government, and picketing. Lobbying is an example of how citizens can petition the government. The adoption of the article happened in 1791 when there was a call to protect civil liberties in the US. There have been disputes on the application of the First Amendment. The definition and interpretation of the freedom of expression is still under debate as discussed in this article.[Balkin, Jack M. “Information Fiduciaries and the First Amendment.” UDCL Rev. 49 (2015): 1183.]
