In this paper, I will examine Pericles and Constantine and compare their leadership with that of Abraham Lincoln and Donald Trump, respectively. Pericles was a prominent Greek orator, statesman, and general during the era of Athens (495–429 BCE), while Constantine was a Roman Emperor, who ruled in 306–337 AD (Pasquino, 1). I chose these two leaders because they made remarkable changes in history. For instance, during Pericles’ reign, democracy was established in Athens, and the Empire was created via linking the Delian league. Constantine conquered Byzantium and issued Edict of Milan giving his people the right to religion. Although Pericles and Constantine were from culturally diverse backgrounds, they made incredible changes to their nations.
Constantine and Pericles were great leaders of the ancient world and prioritized their citizens’ interests and provided the freedom that was curtailed by their predecessors. Pericles transformed the Delian League, the association of Greek cities, into an Athenian Empire. Similarly, Constantine reformed the Roman Empire by allowing freedom of religion. He divided the Empire into West and East and legitimized Christianity in Byzantium or Constantinople. Furthermore, both rulers led armies in battles. Pericles led the First and Second Peloponnesian Wars in 460-446 BCE and 431-404 BCE
