New York 2018 Election
New York is one of the congressional districts in the United States with various voting policies that define the conditions to be followed by citizens during elections. The procedures include requirements for voter registration, provisions for early voting as well as systems for registering voters online among others. To be a voter in New York, one must be a citizen of the United States and a resident of the city for a period not less than thirty days before the election. The law requires individuals registering as voters to be at least eighteen years by the election date to be allowed to vote. Individuals on parole and prisoners, as well as the mentally incompetent, are ineligible to register as voters. For one to exercise democratic rights of voting in New York, they must not be voters elsewhere.
Voter Registration in New York
The process of registering voters in New York requires team effort across all the city agencies. The law requires the city agencies to assist in registering voters and educate citizens about the elections. The purpose of creating public awareness is to provide citizens with information necessary for engaging in the critical electoral process. The partnership between the city agencies and community partners promotes registration events as well as civic engagement programs across New York. Applications for registration are available at agency-based voter registrations centers and the county board of elections. Prospective voters can access the forms online or request them by mail. The law requires filled forms sent by mail to be postmarked a minimum of twenty-five days before the election. The election officials must receive the completed forms at least twenty days before the election.[Robert G. Boatright, "Hassell, Hans J. G.
