Machine Operation

In week 4 we cut the size and sanded the surface. When cutting, square or rectangular materials can be cut directly on the band saw's table. Still, round and cylindrical materials need to be fixed with v-fixers before cutting can begin. When facing do not operate at a depth of more than 0.025 inches at a time, as cutting too thick will hurt the tool. In addition, the relationship between speed and friction causes overheating and smoke, so you need to spray the Cooling fluid to cool down the cutting place.

Between 5-11 weeks we use milling machines and lathe machines to cut out the size parts we need. When drilling a hole, we can use Center Punches to tap a center point at the location if we don't need a precise position, and then use Center drills to drill a center hole at the center point. The next step is to use drills to turn through, then Reamers, and counter sink. (If the hole is 0.375 inch, reamers choose 3/8, drills should be smaller than the size of reamers 23/64.) However, if the hole needs to be precisely located, we must use Edge finders to find the exact location, and then replace the center drill to turn the center hole. When using an edge finder do not forget to add the radius of the tip to your movement, and always edge finds twice to make sure you were right the first time.

Each section of the chain is a fixed length, so to get a chain that is not too loose or too tight, we need to first combine the gears and chain to come up with the length we need. Then measure the distance between the two gears. Finally, drill holes in the rod supporting the gears. This way we can get a transmission chain that works smoothly. Figure 6: Gears and chains When manually threading the parts, first use the chunk to hold the part while using the machine to help the manual threading tool can be turned vertically into the part. if we turn the thread manually at the beginning, we cannot guarantee that the rod is 9 threaded 90° vertically. If the first thread is crooked, this will not complete the subsequent threads and damage the rod. This will not be remedied

Rotating Speed of the machine

Following the guidance of the MT103 textbook, we specify the rotational speed of the different machines and cutting tools. This is very important because the fast-rotating speed not only leads to damage to parts and machines, but also causes the cutting tool to heat up and soften materials with low melting points. Low rotating speed, on the other hand, will not achieve the cutting effect and the soft material will also produce sticking. Here is the speed of the milling machine for the different tools: The simplest f
